Principal of College Connection Academy, Amber Andrade and student Cisco Ramos Avelar, Jr. have an important discussion with Damian Trujillo on Comunidad del Valle regarding Cyber Bullying, social media, and its impact on youth.

Swifty on command from the Franklin McKinley School District is principal Ambridge connection Academy in Cisco junior is a student also at the school welcome to the show thank you I mean that's the debt the term that we use this day and age and you recently had a seminar at your school our district has quite a few programs they do for the district's district-wide so that parents are aware of things we're going on online when we were younger bullying existence not something new but now with so much access to online platforms and is a very different age to Bling by think when you get to witness it I have everything cuz I said children we have realized that if we have passwords that our parents are not you don't know they don't have access to what we do on Snapchat or Instagram to where we can bully someone without them noticing District but maybe another schools around the area play the something that were constantly improving on new Netflix series 13 Reasons Why We found that we had more referrals for students that we're considering committing suicide so as a district we wanted to be as proactive as possible so we started interviewing students and sending out surveys to kids and parents too find out what are some things that are going on with that series it brought up a lot of mental health needs in our district I can't bring it up because if I bring it up and I'm being bullied I'm going to be seen as a critical chismoso I'm going to become a tattle-tale so I just keep to myself and not tell anybody that do see that happening people who are trying to commit suicide I feel like we shouldn't just keep it inside I feel like we should go and express it to a teacher or a counselor or our principal because it's a Siri matter that needs to be dealt with it's not a game that you can just say okay no one needs to know it's on them Snapchat lot of apps that I don't know about you as a principal you have to kind of keep on top of all it is hard I rely on the students though to teach me the new the latest and newest app and I really encourage parents to have the same come stations with their children what are these programs what do they do what can happen in keeping on Mexico passwords and IDs are you at the point in your career where you can kind of read the signs and kids and in know what some of these symptoms are there being bullied there are some warning signs in as a district we have a bullying app on our District web page two parents can have reported if kids tell them at home you didn't report it myself I have a remind app on my phone that parents can message me directly and students can send me pictures directly on my cell phone so that also helps keep the communication Airline explain the consequences do you think the students realize that there might be a crime involved in that cyber bullying could lead to dangerous if not deadly consequence come about cyberbullying and talking to us about how if we knew someone was going to commit suicide or has been bullied before to bring it up and not because if we hide it then the problem gets worse and why should the problem get worse when we have parent teachers and principals will it up. I consider your superintendent friend what does it say about his administration to be able to notice this and and chocolate before it has a chance to blossom into something I can be bad leadership that we need superintendent one cruises amazing he really takes a proactive approach for us as a community including parents and time teaching parents how to look through Snapchat and how do we access all of these things at the Proactiv peace is very important especially what is the conversations that kids are having online that we as adults don't know are happening we need to have a proactive approach in and really a collaboration when the parents in the community before bowling was face-to-face and now will you don't even know what's happening cuz it's in cyberspace district office number and the Weber test form formation any final thoughts of Frozen to go Amber Snapchat what social media platforms are your kids on and what does that look like and if someone's contacting them it's okay to have the conversation thank you good luck and good work
