In Franklin-McKinley School District we believe students birth to age 8 deserve a high quality early learning experience. Starting Smart and Strong is our shared long-term commitment that every child in San Jose grows up healthy and ready for kindergarten. Franklin-McKinley School District has established partnerships with Educare California at Silicon Valley, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, FIRST 5 of Santa Clara County, State Preschools and Head Start to offer additional opportunities for children ages 0 to 5. This partnership has developed into the Starting Smart and Strong commitment of Franklin-McKinley School District and Early Learning partner organizations.
The Franklin-McKinley School District offers Transitional Kindergarten for children who will be 5 years old between September 2, 2016 and January 31, 2017.
Achieving this goal requires that we do more than just make sure every child has access to early childhood education. It means that every adult in a child’s life—whether she is a formal educator like a preschool teacher, or informal caregiver like a family member—has the tools and training he or she needs to support that child’s development every day. Funded by the Packard Foundation, and made possible by partnerships throughout our San Jose community, Starting Smart and Strong empowers adults to create healthy, nurturing, and engaging connections with children, so that our children are on track to reach their full potential in school and in life.
