Independent Study
2023-24 Academic Year FMSD Independent Study
Franklin-McKinley School District's Independent Study Program (ISP), is an Independent Study option for students who are looking for an alternative educational program. For the 2023-24 school year, FMSD will be making updates to our program to align with the vision of providing an educational experience that supports students who desire a more challenging educational experience, whose health or other personal circumstances make classroom attendance difficult and/or who are unable to access course(s) due to scheduling problems (BP 6158). For the 2023-24 school year, FMSD will be returning to our 4th-8th grade Independent Study model. Classes will not be offered to students in grades Tk-3rd. All students enrolled in the 4th-8th grade ISP will be expected to meet with their classroom teacher in-person at Lairon for one hour a week and will be expected to complete daily assignments as assigned by the instructor, independently. Transportation to Lairon for 1:1 or small group in-person sessions will not be provided. If you have a rising 4th through 8th grade student who is interested in participating in ISP for the 2023-24 school year, please complete this SURVEY to determine if ISP will be a good fit for your student. For students who score below 12 points on this survey, ISP may not be a good option at this time. To apply for the 2023-24 Independent Study Program at Lairon, please complete this FORM in its entirety. If you have any questions, please contact Joy Scarpinato, Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment via email at joy.scarpinato@fmsd.org or by phone at (408) 283-6043.
