My name is Timothy Hipsley. I teach grades 3/4 SDC. I have been teaching at Captain Jason M. Dahl Elementary since August 2017.
I was born in Sydney, Australia. My mother is from Wisconsin. I have a Bachelor of Arts (Communication) degree from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Bachelor of Science, Liberal Studies degree from Excelsior College, New York. I earned my Education Specialist: Mild/Moderate Disabilities credential at National University and my Autism Spectrum Disorders – Added Authorization from Brandman University.
Before coming to the U.S. in 1991, I studied Finnish culture and language at Viittakivi International Centre, Hauho, Finland during the Winter Course, 1990-1991. My great-grandparents emigrated from Finland to the U.S. I served in the AmeriCorps National Service program, 1994-95, and I was an Instructional Aide at Bill Wilson School for Homeless and Runaway Teens in Santa Clara from 1996 to 2002. I have worked as a Resource Specialist for the Santa Clara County Office of Education. As a substitute teacher, I have taught students with a wide range of abilities. I was elected to membership of the International Foreign Language Honor Society (Phi Sigma Iota), San José State University in 2005 for my study of French.
I love teaching students who need to learn skills and strategies to improve their reading, learning, organization, and social skills. I hope to instill in my students a love for learning both inside and outside the classroom and unlock their creativity and resiliency.
I enjoy swimming at the YMCA and I am interested in current affairs and personal development.
