CC's ABC 7 News a time to remember and reflect today marks one year since the devastating Coyote Creek flooding in San Jose thanks for joining us on decastro Kristen Zee will be in later today hi to Mark the one-year anniversary of the flooding in the community is coming together to thank First Responders who came to their rescue ABC 7 news reporter Matt color is live in San Jose. Hi Jessica shirakawa Elementary school was only closed for one day after the flooding last year did ministration here told me that they wanted to have a sense of normalcy for the students after living through such a traumatic event, Elementary School in San Jose pictures thank you these people answered the call for help after Coyote Creek flooding nearby neighborhoods exactly one year ago today one of them which students at the school who was directly impacted by the flooding was very emotional for me a Hood family for about a month while they're home was repaired Community from shirakawa elementary and the Franklin McKinley School District that made sure they had food clothing and gift cards to help them with their everyday needs our community needs our help and we're going to step up and do whatever we can to this group step about $38,000 was raised by teachers and the community to buy gift cards to give to the share cow with families food clothing and other items were donated and handed out on campus in the weeks following the flood this is video from a story ABC set is dead in early March of last year of David Gomez in his daughters and Cher Kawa students asked her and Gabriella helping out at the schools Community donation center today all three were recognized for getting back. Just felt good to help people that lost everything in life lesson for for everybody especially children to put back into the community when the community calls for us to say thank you so much for helping are helping my family and all the other families that need help too about 14,000 people were impacted by the flooding here in San Jose flood losses were estimated to be around 73 million dollars for 45 in San Jose Matt Keller ABC 7 News
