Our goal with distance learning is to continue the educational process while providing some structure for students at home. Distance learning will take place through the use of Google Classroom, Seesaw, ClassDojo, and Zoom.FMSD will provide a Distance Learning Instructional Framework that includes FMSD approved instructional materials and online programs. The following are the commitments we are making to our entire school community:
- We must take a cultural, equitable, and trauma-informed lens as we shift to distance-learning and in particular, as we determine how our students engage in this new learning environment.
- We recognize this learning environment cannot replace the in-person experience, yet our goal is to maintain a level of learning to prevent regression or loss of learning.
- FMSD will follow all state and federal requirements related to student privacy and confidentiality with the use of technology.
I recognize staff and families are dealing with this global emergency in different ways. Depending on what is happening in each household, the level of readiness to engage in distant learning may vary. During these times, we must allow for flexibility and, to a certain degree, understand the various factors that are currently out of our control.
This article from Teaching Tolerance highlights many of the guiding principles in our approach to implementing distance learning.
