Lessons Learned on Strengthening Early Education

Franklin-McKinley School District is highlighted in this latest New America report, Lessons from Three California Communities on Strengthening Early Education. The report highlights the work in early childhood education taking place in Oakland, Fresno, and San Jose.

Furthermore, it provides a look at how the three communities are engaging families, improving teacher practice, collecting and using data, and building cultures that support early learning. Lastly. it discusses the challenges in implementing these reforms and changing teacher practice, elevating lessons for other communities hoping to take on similar work.

Board of Education Approves LGBTQ Pride Month Resolution

On May 22, 2018, the Board of Education affirmed their commitment to recognizing LGBTQ Pride Month to provide a continuing opportunity for all people in our community to learn about the discrimination and inequality that has faced, and continues to face, LGBTQ people. They approved the resolution with a 5-0 vote. Read the full resolution by clicking on the headline of this story. On June 1, 2018, the District will hold a Rainbow Flag Raising Ceremony in support of Pride Month.

Kennedy Partners with Assembly Member Ash Kalra for School Beautification Project

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, students, parents, staff, and members of the community volunteered their time for a school beautification project at Kennedy. In partnership with Assembly Member Ash Kalra, Latinos Unidos for a New America, and VIVO Vietnamese Voluntary Foundation, the school received many paint upgrades including new four square areas, USA Map, and hopscotch areas in the Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten playground. 5 Schools Compete in the Drop and Dash Tech Challenge

This signature program of The Tech Museum had teams of students in Grades 4-8 from Franklin-McKinley School District compete over the weekend in the annual Drop and Dash Tech Challenge. Students had to use the engineering design process to solve a real-world problem. Participants have spent months collaborating and becoming deeply engaged in the challenge while documenting their progress and designs. The program culminated in a thrilling two-day showcase when teams put their solutions to the test in front of judges.
