On October 22, 2019, District staff presented their summary review of the Alpha Cornerstone charter school petition renewal and their recommendation for Board action. The Board of Education reviewed the District staff recommendations and voted (Nay-3, Aye-2) to deny the petition renewal. It was denied based on:

The Board of Education reviewed the District staff recommendations and voted (Nay-3, Aye-2) to deny the petition renewal. It was denied based on:
- Cornerstone does not enroll a commensurate percentage of Hispanic/Latino students in comparison with FMSD.
- Cornerstone does not currently and has never enrolled a student with moderate/severe disabilities.
- The Smarter Balanced Assessment scores in Mathematics for students with disabilities has created an achievement gap over the last three years.
