Compassion Project Launches at Santee Elementary

The US Women’s National Team Players’ Association (USWNTPA - Soccer) and EVERFI visited Santee Elementary School on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 to kick off the Compassion Project, a new digital learning program designed to empower students with critical Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. The event took place in the Santee Elementary cafeteria with the US Women’s National Team’s Players and Santee Elementary School third and fourth graders, joined by LinkedIn CEO and Compassion catalyst Jeff Weiner. After USWNT Players and Jeff Weiner made their opening remarks, they lead students through a group activity featuring student-led skits and group discussion. USWNT Players, Jeff Weiner and others joined the student small groups to help develop their skits and role play along with them in support of Compassion learning.

The students enjoyed meeting the US Women's National Team Players' and Mr. Jeff Weiner. Students exposed to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in school continue to do better than their peers on a number of indicators: positive social behaviors and attitudes, skills such as empathy and teamwork, and academic achievement. These students also have fewer conduct problems, less emotional distress, and lower drug use, among many other benefits.
