Local Voters Approve Measure U with 73% Approval

On November 4, 2008 local voters approved overwhelmingly Measure U which will pay for a variety of educational programs at Seven Trees Elementary.  In addition to the 15 other school sites within our District:  Franklin-McKinley.   Voters were asked to approve, by two-thirds vote, a parcel tax of $72 per year for nine years. The money will be used to improve math, science and literacy teaching and to reduce class size in kindergarten through third grade; other uses for the money include getting and keeping qualified teachers and helping at-risk students.  ^

Scotland District Initiative Partnership Delegates Visit Seven Trees Elementary

Franklin-McKinley School District (FMSD) has partnered with the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) to create a new educational program, the College Connection Academy. To give our students the skills to prepare them for college and professional careers, graduates from the Academy will earn both a high-school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree.

The SQA is a national agency that has been successful in developing assessment systems to build a curriculum that not only provides an education in basic subjects (i.e. math, science, reading and writing), but also high-level career education and workforce development. Their School-to-Work programs have influenced the Franklin-McKinley College Connection Academy to guide our students to bright futures.
On October 21st, delegates from SQA visited Seven Trees Elementary School to experience our diverse school district culture and educational programs. The SQA delegates visited 4-6 grade classrooms, where they observed teachers using innovative instruction strategies in English language arts and mathematics.

Students also performed traditional folk dances from various regions of Mexico. The performance was followed by a reception with parents, staff and members of partner organizations such as San Jose State University, The Nascent Group and Project G.L.A.D. (Guided Language Acquisition Design).

Rosemary Stutz Wins Office Max Teacher of the Year Award

Seven Trees School is pleased to announce that first grade teacher Rosemary Stutz was selected for the Office Max Teacher of the Year award. A surprise in-school ceremony took place on October 1, as Seven Trees students and staff participated in “A Day Made Better,” an Office Max sponsored event to pay tribute to outstanding teachers.

School principals across the nation nominated over 1,300 teachers for this award. “A Day Made Better” acknowledges the sacrifices many teachers make on behalf of their students. With state cuts to education funding, local school budgets are shrinking year after year. Dedicated teachers like Ms. Stutz often spend their own money to adequately stock their classrooms with school supplies. Office Max’s “A Day Made Better” seeks to eliminate teacher-funded classrooms.

At the event, Office Max generously donated much needed school supplies to award recipients. Seven Trees School is thrilled to honor Teacher of the Year Rosemary Stutz for her extraordinary hard work and dedication to her students.
