Active Parenting Classes

Spring 2017 Parent Workshops and Special Events!

The Franklin-McKinley School District believes parent engagement plays a critical role in the academic success of students. During the 2016-2017 school year, there will be various parent engagement opportunities such as English as a Second Language Programs to Active Parenting Classes.

We encourage all interested parents to apply. All programs are open to Franklin-McKinley School District parents. Priority registration will be given to parents whose children attend the school in which the program is taking place.

Family Engagement Day

Achieving excellence and well-being of students begins with strong family to school relationships. Join us for a day of workshops, guest speakers, and family activities. All FMSD families welcome. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Contact Mr. Juan Alvarado at (408) 363-5675 to reserve your space.

Positive Parent Program (Triple P)

Triple P is program that provides support to help you guide your child’s behavior in a positive way that reduces stress and builds strong family relationships. The program offers practical answers, parenting support, and simple tips for raising a happy and confident child – allowing you to pick what works best for your family.

Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Active Parenting Workshops

Active Parenting is a six-week workshop series for parents of preadolescents and adolescents in grades 6-12. In an interactive environment, parents learn about the developmental needs of adolescents, effective communication and other strategies they can use to help their teens develop into responsible and courageous adults. At the completion of the six-week program, parents will be receive a Certificate of Completion.

Dates: March 14, 2017 - April 25, 2017

Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

English as a Second Language Program

English as a Second Language Program is a semester long program for parents who have limited English proficiency. Parents who participate in the CBET program will improve in the following areas:

  • Improve English Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing Skills

  • Increase Communication with the School Staff & Child

  • Improve Understanding of the School System

At the completion of the semester long program, parents will be receive a Certificate of Completion.

Computer Fundamentals

This 5 workshop series will cover the essentials to computer basics such as browsing the internet, online safety, email, social media, and common websites for parents to access (i.e. District website, Infinite Campus, and Peachjar). All parents welcome.

10 Steps To A Healthier You!

Three workshop series brought to you by the Healthier Kids Foundation. This free healthy lifestyle education workshop program discusses topics such as sleeping patterns, fruit and juice recommendations, and dealing with picky eaters. All parents welcome.
