Dear Franklin-McKinley Community:
It is with great sadness that I write to you today, as our country has lost 26 Americans in one of the worst mass shootings to ever take place in our nation.
It is very difficult to find the right words to explain a senseless tragedy such as this one, as this type of violence is not normal. Throughout our district, we will be monitoring our students to ensure that they have the space to express their feelings and that they can obtain any additional support they may need.
If you feel you need support in having the conversation with your student(s), we encourage you to contact your school principal so that you can be connected with one of our counselors and attached is “Tips for Parents and Educators on Talking to Children About Violence.”
As difficult as these times may be, by working together, we will turn the trauma of these moments into an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with our students and community.
If I can assist you in anyway, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Juan Cruz
Superintendent of Schools
