Dear Community,

In light of yesterday’s announcement regarding the repeal of DACA, I wanted to take a moment to let you know that, despite the decision, our district will continue welcoming all students, regardless of immigration status. On January 24, 2017, the Franklin-McKinley Board of Education passed Resolution 2017-01: Recognition of a Safe Haven School District, affirming our commitment to ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students regardless of race, immigration status, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected class.

As educators, our primary focus has always been to educate our students in order to put them on a path for long-term success.

In this moment of pain and confusion for many in our community, some of our students will need us to be their beacon of light and hope as they navigate through the uncertainty.

Let us make ourselves available to lend support and friendship to those members of our community who need backing.

As we communicate with one another, let us make it clear that our district will always be a safe space, and that we will not release personal information to federal agencies, unless obligated through a court order.
